A shining light in the dark, Upper Dublin Theatre Department’s production of RENT: School Edition celebrates life, love, and acceptance even in the most desperate of straits. RENT premiered on Broadway 20 years ago and these messages are as relevant today as they were back then. We are forced to ask ourselves: what is love?
RENT is Jonathan Larson’s award winning musical, based off the play La Boheme. Following a group of artists in the East Village of New York City, life and death are thrust into the spotlight as the reality of HIV/AIDS strikes the Bohemians. Love and life are memorialized over the course of a year in a rebellious and courageous act against the cruel outside world.
Considering the world today, the themes within the show will resonate with audiences and impact them long after viewing a production. RENT is for mature audiences only. Shows are April 6-8, and tickets can be purchased online or at the door.
